He’s finally interested!

Last year Jitterbug would disappear into another room when I was at the table doing school things with Skeeterbug.  Literally disappear and reappear if it sounded like we were taking a break.  I’d see him stick his head around the corner to see what we were doing.  If it wasn’t time for a break he would disappear again.  This year he’s finally interested.  It’s definitely progress when he’s not running in the other direction.  It helps that we had an extended break over the Christmas holidays while we moved.  I had a book full of Christmas printables that he never worked on that I got out for him.

Matching letters.  We matched the letters from our foam ABC puzzle to our wooden ABC puzzle.

A little bit here and there is all I am asking from him.  I’m hoping to nurture that spark of interest and keep it developing through the year.  Note the shin guards in the above picture.  He likes to wear them year-round.  We are still a couple of months away from soccer starting.  :)

First Day of School 2012

We started the day off with a treasure hunt.  I got the idea here.  We did it last year and it was a big hit so we continued the tradition this year.

Looking for clues in the dollhouse.

In the kids’ movie folder.  See the letter hiding in there?  No, it’s not the Inspector Gadget DVD, Ladybug!

The last one was hiding on their Lightning McQueen clock.

What does it spell?  F-U-T-O-N.

Found it!

The treasure included school supplies, pencil cases, games, a Veggietales DVD.

This Richard Scarry’s Cars and Trucks Game is very simple and very fun.  Mostly because you get to count 1…2…3…FLIP!  Which we do as loudly as we can.  So perfect for Jitterbug to work on number recognition.  Fast game, too.

Treasure Hunt 2012

Rory’s Story Cubes, didn’t get to it that day.  Ladybug busied herself taking them in and out of the little plastic tray.  There’s another version now to add actions to the games, we’ll have to get that at some point.

Skeeterbug’s treasure, all lined up.

Colouring their first day signs.  These make great keepsakes.  I love to see how their colouring changes each year.  Jitterbug refused to do his at the same time as the others.  I was surprised at how Ladybug was attempting to draw within the letters I wrote.

The first day of school pics.  Hmmm, the boys don’t even have shirts on.  You’d think it was summer in Australia!  No school uniforms at our house!  Skeeterbug is 7-years-old and starting Grade 2.

 First Day of School 2012

Jitterbug is 4.5.  This year is all about getting him ready for next year when he will be Prep.

First Day of School 2012

Ladybug is 2.  She’ll participate as she shows an interest.  Or as the need arises to keep her quiet. :)

First Day of School 2012  My, how they grow!
